Check out this late 19th century guitar by C.F. Bauer in Mannheim, Germany.
Model: C.F. Bauer, late 19th century
I did some research and found a little info on the maker, who did work as an apprentice at Stauffer’s workshop in Vienna around the time a young C.F. Martin was there!
Unfortunately, I cannot date this piece, but it does bear some stylistic similarities with Stauffer’s work.
This 19th-century guitar by C.F. Bauer is very light and shows evidence of many old, old repairs which were clearly performed by a violin luthier as it is very clean inside.
At some point in time, someone refretted it with medium jumbo frets which is a shame, but it plays and sounds amazing!
Should use gut, but I believe we can continue to use silk & steel, and I often use LaBella.
